Lucy Valentine Pierce
(San Francisco, CA, 1887 - 1974, La Jolla, CA)
As a teenager in San Francisco, Lucy Pierce took private lessons with Xavier Martinez, and later enrolled at the California College of Arts and Crafts. In 1920 she moved to the Monterey Peninsula, setting up her studio in the Stevenson House during its heyday as a gathering place for artists. Much of her art consisted of scenes in and around the neighborhoods of Monterey.
