<p>Born in Sausalito CA, Fortune studied art at the Mark Hopkins Institute along with many others young artists who would later spend time on the Central Coast and develop what would become known as The Monterey Style. Many of Fortune&#39s early works were destroyed in the San Francisco earthquake and fires in 1906. From 1913 through 1920, she and her mother spent summers in Monterey where she eventually settled, becoming one of the early members of the Carmel Art Association.</p>
