The Central Coast is proud to call internationally known artist, David Ligare, one of our own. Ligare describes himself as a post-modern neoclassical artist. Using narrative and mythology,
his figures and landscapes and still-life paintings echo Greco-Roman antiquity both in content and spirit. They are thoughtful, balanced, elegant, and subtle.

Inspired by the Central California light that has drawn so many artists to this region, Ligare's style veers sharply from plein-air impressionism toward what he calls realistically depicted perceptual analysis, exploring the potential meanings of objects. Whether he's painting a floating drapery or a basket of lemons, he imbues his subjects with a dignity, scrutiny and curiosity which invite the viewer to understand the object anew.
