Eugenia Frances McComas
(San Francisco, CA, 1886 - 1982, Monterey, CA)
Eugenia (Gene) Frances Baker McComas was born in San Francisco to a family of journalists. Gene worked as a journalist herself for The Oakland Tribune before her career as a painter. Gene married a fellow artist, Francis John McComas (also featured in this gallery) in 1917. The couple traveled extensively to Europe, Mexico, and the South Seas where they painted. Gertrude Stein, the expatriate writer and art collector commented that Gene-s mural in the Hotel Del Monte was -the best thing she had seen in America-.
