In this loosely painted seascape, Mary DeNeale Morgan situates us  just behind the closely cropped cypress trees.  Their twisting trunks brace against the wind. White caps churn the water. The sky darkens.  Morgan never tired of these coastal scenes;  when she died in her Carmel home,  at the age of eighty, she had an unfinished canvas on her easel. Her style evolved continually throughout her life showing evidence of luminist, impressionist, and modernist influences.
