© David Ligare
This fragrant Mediterranean flower, first named by Homer, appears here in the California hills of David's home. The warmth of the pink blossom captures and holds our gaze against the cool greens and blues which frame it. Although small in scale, the scene is made impressive by the contrast of the close-up flower and the distant receding hills. There are really two separate visual events here, but in so much of Ligare's work, they act together to pique our perception.
