Here again, Keith depicts a pastoral scene in dark subdued colors, creating a romantic somewhat idealized painting with an emphasis on mood. This luminist style was to have a demonstrable influence on a number of California artists, among them Gottardo Piazzoni, Mary DeNeale Morgan, Eugen Neuhaus, Xavier Martinez. Not all were impressed however; Gene McComas referred to Keith-€™s work as having the -€œBarbizon blight.-€
