© The James Fitzgerald Legacy
In this watercolor, the vibrancy of the intersecting lines and shapes of the ship's rigging contrasts with the undisturbed quiet of the dock. Fitzgerald's lifelong interest in boating traces back to a brief stint in the Marines followed by a year of working as a crew member on a schooner off New England. Like Armin Hansen, he found great inspiration in the relationship of man and sea.
