Here again we see O'Shea's use of a rich, expressive palette. As the Director of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor said of O'Shea's work in the 1930-€™s, the gorgeous color and design of [his] canvases were sure to please the San Francisco public. The subject of this composition, the immense California rolling hills, is emphasized by their prominence of scale on the canvas and by the use of subjective color. The distant sea is almost lost in their presence.
