One of the original exhibitors in the art gallery established at the Hotel Del Monte in 1907, McCormick gained a reputation over the years for her notable impressionist paintings of Monterey-€™s historic buildings and adobes. This painting of the Stevenson House is particularly significant in that the house served as a gathering spot for artists and writers throughout the 1920's. A number of these artists - Armin Hansen, Evelyn McCormick, the Bruton sisters, Arnold Genthe, Charles Rollo Peters, Francis McComas among them - referred to themselves as the Monterey Group.
