With their quiet and inviting presence, the coastal sand dunes provided endless inspiration to Central Coast painters. The Monterey Museum of Art is fortunate to have many examples of these meditative plein-air landscapes, by such artists as Mary DeNeale Morgan, Wiiliam Wendt, Christian Jorgensen, Bertha Stringer Lee, and Richard Langtry Partington, to name just a few. In this painting, DeRome invites the viewer to follow a clear path through the dune vegetation toward the gently breaking waves in the distance.
