© Estate of Armin C. Hansen
As in his painting titled Nino, Hansen's primary interest was in the working men of Monterey who eked out rugged livings on the seas. The shadows in this work indicate that it is either early or late in the day, and the men are walking in the hills above Monterey where so many of the Sicilian fishing families had built homes. The red of the shirt is one of Hansen's favored colors, and its presence gives the painting an energy and intimacy.
