Along with Armin Hansen and Paul Dougherty, Ritschel had the distinction of being elected a member of New York's National Academy of artists. He was forever fascinated by the sunlight reflecting off the restless waters of the California Coast. Note the almost countless colors he uses to create this sparkling expanse of movement, anchored only by the suggestion of rocks in the foreground.
