Twenty-six-year old Charles Rollo Peters visited Brittany during his time in France and was captivated by the anachronistic simplicity of the people of the region. Pont-Aven was an artists-€™ colony that had also attracted Paul Gaugin two years earlier. MMA owns two of Peters-€™ paintings from that period, both small oils studies of serious looking children. The profile of the boy, particularly, shows Impressionist influences.
