The sheer scale of this large seascape, with its simplicity of content, just about takes your breath away. The glow of late afternoon light gives the glimpse of rocky shore a commanding presence in this otherwise cool composition. Our eye moves back and forth between the warm solidity of the rocks and the energy of the wave cresting toward us. There is a balance. The vast quietude of the sky above the unbroken horizon creates a meditative feel. Compare this, for example, with John O'Shea's seascape Raging Sea (MMA collection), the effect of which is completely different.
