George Seideneck and his wife, artist Catherine Comstock, lived in Carmel Valley, welcoming many visitors to their creatively decorated and object-filled home over the years.

This seemingly simple painting of golden hills with their tree-laden ravines strikes a powerful emotional chord in its familiarity. All of us have driven, or hiked, through this scenery so uniquely Californian. Seideneck fills his canvas with the hillside, leaving only a glimpse of sky so that we-€™re impressed by the scale of the land. A small farmhouse tucks into the slope.
