Warren Chang is a contemporary California artist working in a neo-classical style. His website refers to his works as depicting subtle narratives that celebrate the human spirit.

This large oil painting captures farm laborers during a quiet moment mid-day. The diagonal line of the figures would lead our eye off into the background, but our gaze is anchored by the commanding color of the red shirt. The intimacy of the composition invites us into the group, rather than observing the figures at a distance. The title refers to American Illustrator Howard Pyle (1852-1911) whose painting So the Treasure Was Divided inspired this painting.
