Originally a one-story adobe, this house on Dutra Street was the childhood home of colorful outlaw, Tiburcio Vasquez, known for stealing horses and robbing stagecoaches. His grandfather had been a Spanish soldier at the new Presidio of Monterey. Built around 1830, the second story was added several decades later by a wealthy railroad man. The cypress tree seen peeking from behind the house, is still standing today.
