Watercolorist Leon Amyx taught art classes at Hartnell College from 1936 to 1972. Having studied watercolor with Millard Sheets, a leader in the California Scene Painting movement, he recorded many settings of his Salinas surroundings. For three separate years his works won first prize at the Monterey County Fair. This charming rural scene captures an everyday moment in mid-century Monterey County.
