Miguel Dominguez grew up in Gonzales. After high school, he left to attend Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo to pursue his interest in landscape architecture and ornamental horticulture. In 1971 he turned to painting full-time, focusing on the gentle rural landscapes of his Monterey County surroundings. In this undated work on paper our eye is directed to the strong black patterns of the cows against the soft muted color of the grassy hillside. With no horizon line to anchor the background, the composition has an almost abstract flatness, with the pathway and fenceposts winding ambivalently into the -distance.
