Although this is an image of men hard at work hauling in their nets, there is a joyfulness in the painting. Hansen-s rich blues are broken by the colorful reflections dancing on the water - an effect created by loosely applied strokes of gold, orange, brown and green. Several dabs of white paint, sparingly applied, accentuate the men in the boat. Unlike so many of Hansen-s seascapes, the ocean here, rather than being menacing, appears tranquil.
