While in NYC studying painting, Margaret Bruton attended classes with Robert Henri (pronounced hen-rye) whose influence is visible in the composition and palette of this work. Also notable is the Japanese parasol, a common convention in works of the French Impressionists who heartily embraced Japanese decorative accents.
