This is one of nine Eugenia Frances McComas works in the MMA Collection, not to be confused with those of her husband Francis McComas. Commonly known as Gene Baker (her maiden name), she studied at the Berkeley School of Arts and Crafts and with Xavier Martinez. It was in Martinez's studio that she met the landscape painter Francis John McComas whom she married in 1917. The two travelled extensively, but always returned to their Monterey home.

This small mixed-media sketch, looking up at a cluster of farm structures from slightly below, was one of many she made of Monterey County scenes.
