Although best known for his brilliant poppy fields, Granville Redmond-s works are actually evenly divided between tonalist and impressionist paintings. Redmond himself preferred his dimly lit nocturnes, dismissing his in-demand poppy compositions as -too popular.- In this composition we see his interest in atmospheric light as the sun (moon?) softly illuminates the landscape. As in most of his works a human presence is only implied.
