Here we are standing on a terrace or roadway looking through the trees down at the little town of Soller in Majorca, Spain. The colors fill the scene with warmth and sunshine. Our eye is drawn to the small boats spilling from the beach into the bay. The composition and the colors are reminiscent of Cezanne. Although he is included with California artists, Warshawsky was born on the East Coast and, as a young man travelled to Paris to further his art studies. He fell in love with Europe and spent the next several decades there, not settling in Monterey until middle age. His work is held in museums across America.
