Louis Siegriest, American, (1899–1989)

Cypress Trees, Monterey

n.d.
Painting
Oil on board
10.5 x 11.75 in. (26.67 x 29.845 cm)
Gift of Barbara and William Hyland
Accession Number: 1991.237

This undated painting is unlike most of Siegriest's work in terms of its dark color palette. As a young man he was known for his exuberant use of bright color, and this therefore may have been one of his later works. Still interested in strong line and expressive form, he probably produced this Monterey painting during one of his visits to August Gay who had moved to the Central Coast in 1918.
