Kaffe Fassett
California-born, London-based painter and textile designer Kaffe Fassett has been featured in publications and on screen from spreads in Vogue magazines to a six-part “Glorious Colour” for Channel 4 (1986). His garments are commissioned and collected by admirers like Barbra Streisand, Lauren Bacall, Shirley Maclaine, and Alan Bergman. Over his 50+ year career, Kaffe has collaborated with Missoni, Bill Gibb, Ehrman Tapestries, Liza Prior Lucy, and Rowan Yarns. In 1988, Kaffe became the first living textile artist to have a one-man show at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Since then, his art has been exhibited in shows and museums all over the world, from the Japan World Quilt Fair in Tokyo (1998) to his multi-state U.S. show “Blanket Statements” (2015). He has designed costumes and sets for the Northern Ballet Theatre (1993) and The Royal Shakespeare Company (2000). His needlepoint has been commissioned by private clients and organizations from Pamela Lady Harlech for Lord Harlech, to the Marks & Spencer department stores (1994), and The Edinburgh Tapestry Weaving Company. His fabric prints are distributed worldwide by Westminster Fibers, Rowan, and FreeSpirit Fabrics. Kaffe is a patron of Fine Cell Work’s “A Gift of Quilts” charitable project, the Shetland Peerie Makkers’ Brough Lodge Trust, the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, the UK Knitting & Crochet Guild, and the Heritage Crafts Association. In 2013, he was awarded the Turner Medal as one of Britain’s greatest colourists. In 2018, Kaffe was honored with a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of his services to the crafts of knitting and needlework. He has written over 50 publications, including Dreaming in Color and Kaffe Fassett’s Pattern Library.
Erin Lee Gafill
A fifth generation California artist, Erin is the recipient of the Jennifer Hill Prize from the Carmel Plein Air Festival, and has been elected Best Local Artist three times by the Monterey County Weekly. In 2001, she was honored as the first American artist-in-residence at the Hamada International Children’s Museum of Art in Hamada, Japan. In 2008, she was named a Champion of the Arts by the Arts Council for Monterey. She is the founder of the nonprofit arts education organization, The Big Sur Arts Initiative, creating award-winning programming serving the Big Sur Coast for over a decade and garnering recognition from the Turner Foundation, the Packard Foundation, First Night Monterey and the Arts Council for Monterey County. She is a founding signature member of the Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association (MBPAPA), and an artist member of the Carmel Art Association. Erin is the author of two books, Drinking from a Cold Spring, A Little Book of Hope and Color Duets.
