Temple Sisters in Currents + FLUX

The Temple Sisters – Holly and Ashlee Temple – work in mixed media to create small assemblages. Collaboration and the implicit trust it requires is at the core of each work. Emerging from a shared history and aesthetic, they forge a partnership in paint and paper. Each work is meant to engage the viewer in questions about the temporal and fluid nature of image, memory, and the cultural language of expression.

This exhibition includes two series, She Wore a Blue Dress. She Wore a Red Dress. which explores collective stories and memory, and Tomes a series engaging with questions of value, consumption, and decay. By repurposing, rearranging, and re-imagining the everyday media that we rely on to “hold” our memories, the Temple Sisters are engaging us in a conversation about the fragility and ambiguity of our memories and the identities they evoke within us.
